I do not currently accept insurance, though if you would like to pursue reimbursement from your insurance company, I will work with you to determine an appropriate diagnosis and superbill, which you can then submit to receive out-of-network reimbursement. Some insurance policies provide reimbursement, whether partial or full, while others do not. I cannot guarantee that your provider will approve my services for reimbursement and recommend that you reach out to them to inquire about your options.

I have a limited number of need-based sliding fee spots available, as well.

Yes. Because I balance a busy schedule between counseling, supervising, and teaching, I do require that you provide me with 24-hour notice if you need to cancel and appointment. Cancelling with less than 24-hour’s notice will result in being charged for the full session fee.

Getting Started

Research has shown that one of the most important factors for successful counseling is the therapeutic relationship. It is important that both you and I explore this fit as it relates to style, clinical needs and expertise, and availability. I encourage all clients who are seeking a new counselor to “window shop” before deciding to begin counseling. Most counselors, myself included, will offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to assess for fit. If you decide to schedule an initial intake appointment, this assessment will continue to ensure that I am the right counselor for you.

Please be aware that because of my teaching and occasional travel schedule, I am not the right counselor for clients needing a higher level of care (e.g. clients needing frequent contact in between sessions or multiple sessions a week, frequent or acute suicidality, clients struggling with addiction, clients navigating legal cases, etc.).

If we decide to work together, we will begin with intake paperwork, intake assessments (questionnaires, surveys, and interview), and the development of counseling goals (treatment plan). It can feel like a lot of questions up front, but the better I can know you, your resources, and your challenges, the more likely it will be that I can provide the most appropriate treatment for you. Because of the extent of this intake process, the intake appointment is 90-minutes ($255). Future sessions can be either 60 or 90 minutes in length.

If you think we might be a good fit, please utilize the Contact form on this website and we will arrange a free 20-minute phone consultation.

Therapeutic Process

When beginning a course of therapy, most people find that they will gain the greatest traction towards their goals by meeting weekly or every other week. This often last for several months, but each person’s course of therapy is unique, and I cannot offer any guaranteed outcomes.

You do not need to utilize any of these specific techniques, though I have found that many clients notice that they are incredible compliments to talk therapy, with some clients preferring to primarily focus their sessions on the use of these techniques. Each of these techniques has been developed on our ever-evolving research on how the nervous system, including the regions in our brain, store and process (or don’t process) overwhelming or traumatic experiences. When we utilize these techniques, we are working with the areas of your brain that we cannot reach through talk alone. Because of this, clients often are amazed to find that a topic they have been talking about for years can feel more manageable after just a few sessions with these techniques. You can learn more about each technique below:
